Diego was born in 1511.  Diego's father was Francisco Ochoa-de Olarte and his mother was Maria Saenz.  His maternal grandparents were Iñigo Hernandez-de Ugarte and Catalina de Castillo.  He had two brothers and two sisters, named Iñigo, Sebastian, Catalina and Marta.  He was the oldest of the five children.
